My name is Maria Klots, and I am a licensed Mental Health Counselor in Washington State (LH61431885). I received a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Bastyr University, which emphasizes whole-person wellness and healing. I have worked with children and families my entire professional career in one way or another, and I have seen the meaningful changes my clients make.
My therapeutic approach is a combination of Humanistic, Existential, Client-Centered, and Psychodynamic. I use Child-Centered Play Therapy when working with kids. I see myself as a guide and a fellow traveler along with my clients, rather than as the expert on their lives or experiences. I believe that we are all concerned in some way with having meaning in our lives, relationships, and our work, and we are deeply invested in making more satisfying choices.
Outside of the session, I enjoy spending time outdoors and engaging in meaningful and deep connections with family and friends. I truly believe in the healing power of nature and the human capacity to change and grow.
PLAY THERAPY
Play is a native language for kids to explore and express their feeling, emotions, relationships and to understand themselves in the challenging world of adults. Through play, art, and sandbox therapy kids learn to know and accept themselves and learn new skills to navigate their lives in a safe environment.
My mission is to provide a safe environment in which you can grow, come to know yourself more deeply, and find ways to relieve your suffering. My counseling style is both educational and therapeutic. I believe that each person is fundamentally healthy and good and that by finding out more about yourself, you can find healthy ways to get your needs met and live your life more fully.
COUPLES and FAMILY THERAPY
I am Level 1 certified in PACT, a model that combines attachment theory, developmental neuroscience, and arousal regulation. My approach is grounded in relational and client-centered therapy, which recognizes that healing and growth happen within safe, authentic connections. I help couples and families build stronger, more secure relationships by exploring their patterns, deepening emotional attunement, and creating the kind of closeness that allows love and connection to thrive
